At Best-Rate Repair, we’ve been building and remodeling decks in San Diego and San Diego County for over a dozen years. During that time, we’ve been able to watch as new deck trends and styles emerge. Many homeowners are looking for more expansive decks with more built-in features to add beauty and lifestyle enhancements to their time on the deck. Here are five hot outdoor deck trends we’ve noticed:

Wrap-Around Decks

The traditional rectangular deck is still popular, but more homeowners have been asking us for bigger and more expansive decks that allow them to really enjoy their time outside. Wraparound decks are growing in popularity, especially out here in Southern California where homeowners can entertain outdoors year round.

Multi-Level Decks

Another way homeowners enjoy getting more space and more use from their decks is building multi-level decks. This type of design is very beautiful and provides multiple landings that allow a homeowner to create differentiated outdoor spaces.  For instance, one landing can be dedicated to cooking and barbequing, while another landing can provide lots of seating for rest and relaxation.

Built-In Planting Boxes

Here in Southern California, land is at a premium, and many homeowners have to make due with smaller yards, which can restrict their ability to plant a big a garden. That’s why so many homeowners out here love the idea of building a deck with sunken planting boxes built right in. These planters encourage homeowners to plant flowers, herbs, and even veggies right on their deck!

Built-In Seating

A deck is a great place to entertain, especially in the year-round warm climates of San Diego. That’s why so many homeowners love the thought of building benches and other seating areas right into the deck. This seating, made from the same material of the deck, looks gorgeous and gives guests a perfect place to rest during a party.

Hot Tub Cut Out

For the truly luxurious experience, deck builders have also started building decks with hot tub cut outs built right in. A sunken hot tub looks so much more elegant than a hot tub just standing in the corner of a deck. Of course, you have to be careful and make sure the cut out matches the dimensions of the ideal hot tub a homeowner wants!
