Somewhere in the world, a woman dies from breast cancer every 69 seconds. I’m sure most of us have known someone in our lives who has been diagnosed with breast cancer or with another form of cancer. My best friend’s wife has been fighting a rare form of cancer for some time now. She has already undergone one major surgery and will have a second one soon. My thoughts and prayers are with her.
That’s why I’ve finally decided to take a stand against cancer…well, actually I’ll be taking a walk against cancer. Sixty miles to be exact. This year, I’ll be participating in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk for the Cure, which raises money to fund innovative global breast cancer research and local community programs supporting education, screening and treatment.
I’ll be walking sixty miles over the course of three days – November 18th, 19th, and 20th – with a goal to raise $5,000 for the walk. My company, Best Rate Repair, has already pledged to donate $10 to the cause for every job completed before November. So, about that pink bathrobe…
I need your help to meet my financial goal, and I’m not afraid to look silly to achieve it. If you want to be kind and just donate $30 to my walk, you have my sincere thanks and appreciation (See donation link below). If you want to send a special challenge my way, there isn’t a lot I won’t do if the money is right. In fact, a friend offered a $50 dollar donation if I walked the first mile in a pink bathrobe. Get ready to see if pink is a good color on me, because I just bought one from a thrift store!
Sixty miles is a long distance, and it will definitely be the physical challenge of a lifetime. If you’re interested, you can follow my training progress on the Best Rate Facebook page. Notes of support are more than welcome. If you are doing a Susan G. Komen event this year, please share your story with us as well!
