Why does the summer fly by every year? Labor Day is almost upon us (Monday, September 2nd), which means you get one more long holiday weekend to enjoy the last days of summer before the kids go back to school, the night starts creeping up, and fall descends upon us.
At Best-Rate Repair, we encourage you to take advantage of your deck or patio and spend the holiday weekend outside. Consider firing up the barbecue and inviting neighbors, friends, family and coworkers over for a casual deck or patio party to give summer an appropriate going away party. Horseshoes, badminton, and sprinklers for the kids could all help liven up the party.
If managing a big get together isn’t really your thing, consider inviting just a small group of your close friends or family over for a casual dinner outdoors on the deck or patio. The nights are still warm enough that you can enjoy a great meal outside while watching the sun set on the horizon and the stars come out.
To really relax on your labor day, set up some comfy lounge chairs on your deck or patio for your guests. You may even want to consider bringing out a small loveseat or chaise if you have one in the house for extra sitting room. Add candles to the tables and make sure there’s plenty of lighting around your deck stairs so that everyone can be safe.
Most importantly, give yourself permission to relax. We spend a lot of time on this blog discussing how to clean your deck and patio, inspect your deck and patio for termites and wood rot, and how to repair damaged or old decks and patios. After spending all that time and effort to take care of your deck or patio, make sure you actually take the time to enjoy it. This Labor Day weekend is the perfect opportunity. Even if you don’t throw a big bash or cook a splendid dinner for friends and family, there are still plenty of ways you can spend time on your deck or patio to enjoy the last hurrah of summer.
Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!
