We San Diegans tend to be an eco-friendly bunch. Maybe it has something to do with the constraints of living in a desert or from having so many beautiful landscapes near us, from the ocean, to the mountains. Whatever the reason, it’s no surprise that the annual EarthFair that takes place in Balboa Park is the largest free annual environmental fair in the world.
This year, EarthFair takes place on Sunday, April 27th, and over 60,000 visitors are expected to come by. Best-Rate Repair will join in these festivities. One of our crew members will walk around the event in a termite costume. It sounds a little silly, but our message is serious. Building something the right way can save resources in the long term.
The coordinators of EarthFair are striving to make the EarthFair a zero-waste event. Last year, the event was able to recycle, reuse or compost 90% of the waste generated. We think this is an incredible achievement, but what if you could prevent extra waste in the first place?
Let’s say that you want to build a deck for your San Diego home or rebuild an old deck. If you use low-quality materials or contractors who don’t use best building practices, you may find that your deck needs a major repair every couple of years or that you have to build a whole new one in ten years. Building a new deck requires resources and materials, not to mention a lot of extra money!
Instead, if you choose a quality deck building contractor and pay for the right materials, your deck could last for 20 years or more with only normal maintenance required. Think about all the resources you would save. Building something right the first time is a way to respect the environment. It may cost a little more upfront, but you will save a lot of money and frustration in the long run.
We hope you’ll come out to the EarthFair this Sunday. If you do, look for the giant termite walking through the crowd. Don’t worry, this termite won’t bite! In fact, he could give you some great advice on helping to protect our beautiful planet.
